Welcome to Deaf Child Literacy!

This site and resources are specifically designed for parents to use with their Deaf children in building literacy, especially if the children use sign language as their primary mode of communication and parents are just learning to sign.

With that said, the resources and information provided here are open to anyone.  If you know or care for a Deaf child, you may find useful information and activities for building literacy skills with the child.  Best wishes on your journey!

This website was created by an AmeriCorps VISTA member in cooperation with the Minnesota Literacy Council through the council's Summer Reads Program.

Summer Reads aims to reduce the decline of literacy skills over the summer months in children who are low-income. AmeriCorps VISTA members (Volunteers In Service To America) serve full-time for eight weeks each year to provide literacy tutoring and creative enrichment for children in grades K-3 in schools, libraries and community programs across the state of Minnesota.
